The Wildly Colorful and Creative Scientist...and the Room Where He Sleeps (aka my son's bedroom reveal!)
This room looks nothing like how I originally envisioned it…and I suppose that’s the beauty in it. This bedroom was designed for our middle son, who ended up being a rather vocal and collaborative “client”. My original intent had a full maritime vibe, including an old oil painting of a sailor my husband deemed “super creepy”. I thought it was just kind of salty but not everyone loves an old man of the sea I suppose (!?!).
The starting inspiration for this room was this wallpaper. My son’s favorite color (for many years running) has been “rainbow” and this one checked all the boxes…or circles and lines, to be precise. He loves science and experiments and patterns, and this just reminded me of molecules and patterned wavelengths. How much more perfect could it get?
And then there was just fun. The vintage Lego phone that baffled our kids with its cord. The bright yellow touch lamp for reading. Not to mention the funkiest reading chair I could not live without after another vintage-loving friend sent it to me. It’s like a hug when you sit it in…I can’t fully explain…you just have to get your booty in there and see for yourself.
We styled it together, and that was maybe my favorite part. Adding a borrowed heirloom quilt from a friend her mother sewed with love. Filling the test tubes with gems from my son’s collection and grass from outside. Adding in his favorite rubber band ball we have been adding to for the past year. His marble collection. Such personal things I’ll aways look back and love how much he loved these treasures. My creative boy who colors my world so much. How I loved making this room with you and seeing things through your eyes.
