Color scheme
Rainbow palette, bright and cheery pops of color, and VERY durable finishes on all surfaces!
What we started with
This room kept evolving but it was rarely used no matter what we did with it. In a few short years, it morphed from a workout room to an office to a guest bedroom and each version sat neglected for most of the time. We really wanted a room we could use that could serve a few purposes and the idea for this playroom / reading room / guest space evolved.
My favorite details
Sustainability was the key focus here. I wanted this room to be filled with art and color and creativity so my tiny clients wouldn’t be afraid to get chalk and marker on the walls if they got a little messy. It all started with this colorful shaggy rug. Not only is it fun, but it hides paint stains, uncapped markers on the floor, and all the other crafting casualties that can happen. We put down soft floor tiles that are completely wipeable and save the wood floors from becoming a work of art. The daybed accommodates our occasional overnight guest and pulls out to a trundle for much-requested cousin sleepovers.
Client's favorite thing about the room
The chalkboard, of course! Nothing is more fun than playing teacher or sketching out their names and favorite characters on the walls. I debated if this would be too messy, but it's not bad and it's well worth it.
Behind the scenes
In full disclosure, I was scared to leave crayons and chalk and markers out, but....bite my tongue (I should not put this in writing)...we have yet to walk into a Picasso disaster. It's great that they can just grab paper and get creative whenever they want. My downstairs cream couch is a different story...
