Color Scheme
Warm tones of oranges, yellows and browns mixed with white and natural-wood.
What we started with
This is the nursery for our 3rd son so my starting point was dreaming of absolutely nothing blue and a desire to do a more gender-neutral room in some warmer tones. A fox quite literally crossed my path (see "behind the scenes" comments below) while I was pregnant and the "foxy" nursery theme was born.
My favorite details
The felt mobile. The custom drawing of tin-can talking foxes my husband sketched. The embroidery hoops to "BE KIND," "BE BRAVE,” and "BE WILD." The adorable Hazel Village fox stuffed animal gift perched on the shelf embroidered with baby's name. I clearly can't decide on a favorite for this one at all but I most definitely love this happy little room.
Client's favorite thing about the room
The camping bears are a huge hit with all the boys. This room wasn't big enough to include a full-sized play tent so I found this adorable little tent made for dogs (yes, a pet tent) and my kids (and the camping bears) are none the wiser :)
Behind the scenes
My husband and I were on a weekend getaway in upstate N.Y. and stopped in this charming little wooded spot in Saugerties when a fox came up to me and then continued on his way like it was normal to say "hi" and hang with humans. On our way out of town, we fittingly found a little fox stuffed animal in a store and purchased it...and there came our nursery theme. "Woodland nursery" brought up some pretty ridiculous images of over-the-top rooms with faux animal heads everywhere and I knew I wanted this to be much less bears and hunting and browns on browns on browns. I recalled a designer's (very wise) advice "not to overdo a theme" and I thought "fox that" and added an army of foxes to surround my little man with. Sometimes, you just have to embrace the wild ;)
